Katherine and John met in Yangon, Myanmar where they have been living and working as teachers for the past several years. These two are true adventurers, often traveling the world together when they are not in the classroom. Some of their favorite trips recently include New Zealand, Japan, Thailand and NYC. Sign me up!
When we first skyped, Katherine and John explained to me that they wanted their wedding to be a laidback love celebration. It was going to be a day to share food and a good time with their friends and family, unstructured and casual to suit their free-spirits.
Barn Again Lodge in Mondovi, WI provided the perfect backdrop for what they were envisioning: views of rolling hills for miles, plenty of outdoor space to roam, an overhang that kept us dry during the ceremony, and multiple cottages and a barn where they hung out with friends and family the entire week.
The day was infused with personal touches that stayed true to Katherine and John’s less traditional approach to a wedding day. For starters, Katherine’s vintage-inspired coral wedding dress is amazing and impossible to miss. The pair also decided on a potluck dinner and a freeform ceremony sans aisle or officiant. Musician friends of theirs performed to start it off, and Katherine kept the tears flowing with a ukulele number dedicated to John. So sweet!
The entire day was an unhurried, heartfelt and special celebration of community and love. I left feeling like I had a whole new group of friends and, as John made clear, a place to stay if I ever find myself in Myanmar ☺︎
